Favorite Spring Time Events

It’s Friday, Hokies! Even better, it’s warm today! I hope that you’ve all had a wonderful week. Even though it was a rainy, there’s a positive to all the dreariness: spring time! It’ll be here before you know it, folks. Although rain can be gloomy and gray, it brings beautiful flowers to the world. I’m so excited for spring! Spring time in Blacksburg is filled with amazing activities that are so much fun to get involved with. Without further ado, here are a few of my favorite spring activities coming to a campus near you….

1. March 20, 2018: International Day of Happiness

March 20th is a special day for two very important reasons. One, it marks the beginning of spring, which means flowers, warm weather and sunshine; two, it’s the international day of happiness! I mean, who could not be happy on the first day of spring? This day will be one of the days I look forward to the most because everyone will be smiling, laughing and having a great time. Happy Hokies make me one happy bird.

2. April 7, 2018: The Big Event

Big Event is coming soon, which means I get to selflessly serve the community that I love so much. This event is one of my favorites because it brings the community closer to the students, and it shows that Virginia Tech is one of the most service-focused and loving campuses around. Ut Prosim, baby! This day is full of exciting performances, dancing, Enter Sandman and pure altruism. As a Hokie, it’s a beautiful sight to see other Hokies showing love for each and every individual through service. I can’t wait.

3. April 14, 2018: The Spring Game

You all already know that there’s absolutely no place like Lane. To date, Lane Stadium is one of the most feared football stadiums around. We are just so very spirited. Sadly, football season ends in the winter, but thankfully, we have a spring game to look forward to. It’s fun, it’s tradition and it’s free! Everybody loves Hokie football. This day is one of my all-time favorite days out of the year because every student, every family, tons of professors, staff, faculty and community visitors gather in the stands to support the team. It’s also the last time that senior Hokies get to jump to Enter Sandman. The most exciting part is that Virginia Tech wins— and who doesn’t love a game where the Hokies win?

4. April 20, 2018: Relay for Life

To date, Virginia Tech is one of the top colleges in the nation when it comes to Relay for Life. We’ve been the number one Relay college for many years.  Just like Big Event, Relay allows Hokies to come together and serve for a beautiful and necessary cause. We walk, jog and run for Hokies who have cancer, are affected by cancer, or have passed from cancer. It’s a huge charity event in which all the funds go straight to cancer research. I look forward to it every year, simply because it feels like I’m doing my best to make a change.

5. April 21, 2018: Fork & Cork

Blacksburg Fork and Cork is one of my most favorite spring activities. It’s a day filled with glorious wine tastings, music, art and delicious food. It falls on a Saturday and there is always a huge gathering. Multiple foodies, artists and wine lovers come to set up at this event. This day is filled with laughter and grand memories. I certainly recommend it.

Of course, those aren’t my only favorite activities in the spring, but they certainly are my top five. If you haven’t participated in all five of these, you certainly need to. I promise you, you won’t regret it. Stay happy, Hokies. The rain shall pass and flowers are on the way.

Xoxo,

Dottie
