10 Last-Minute DIY Halloween Costumes for Procrastinators

Happy almost-Halloween Hokies! If you’re a procrastinator like me, you may have forgotten to look for a costume. Or maybe you were trying to avoid those SCARY expensive store-bought costumes. Whatever the reason, have no fear because Dottie is here to save the day! I have found some easy, DIY, last-minute Halloween costume ideas for YOU.

1) Wicked Witch of the West

Grab a long black dress, witch hat, a simple makeup palette (or face paint) and BAM—you’re ready. Cover your face in green makeup or face paint and you’ll be the scariest witch at the party!
2) Dwight Schrute

Any the Office fans out there? All you need is a yellow short-sleeved shirt, a brown tie, and some glasses. Grab some hair grease or gel and part your hair in the middle and you will be the hardest working Assistant (to the) Regional Manager at Dunder Mifflin!

 3) Rosie the Riveter

“WE CAN DO IT!” All you need to do is grab your favorite blue denim jean jacket and a red bandana. You can easily find a tutorial on YouTube on how to copy Rosie’s hairstyle, maybe add some red lipstick, and then you’re one of the most influential cultural icons from WWII. Girl power!

 4) Dancing Girls Emoji

Have a friend that also needs a costume still? This a perfect BFF costume that you can whip up in seconds! All you need is an all-black outfit and some form of bunny ears, bows, or a black headpiece of some kind. Don’t forget to pose!

 5) Princess Leia Costume

For my Star Wars fans out there…all you need is an all-white outfit and some hairspray. Put your hair in two doughnut shaped buns on the side of your head and TA-DA—you’re now the princess of Alderaan!

 6) Tourist

Who doesn’t love a tacky tourist costume? Take a trip to the islands with a Hawaiian shirt, a lei, and a goofy sun or straw hat. Complete the look with a camera, sunglasses, or a fanny pack and you’re ready for a fun night!

 7) Scarecrow

If you’re really looking to get into the Halloween spirit…try being a scarecrow for Halloween. All you’ll need is a plaid flannel shirt, a brown sun or straw hat, and jeans or overalls. Grab some face paint or eyeliner to draw on some stitches and you’re all set!

 8) Bread Winner

If you’re feeling punny, this is the costume for you! All you need is a loaf of bread and a medal or trophy. This is quite possibly the easiest costume of all because you can dress it up however you want!

 9) Minion

Do you want to dress up as my favorite character from Despicable Me? It’s so easy! You just need a yellow shirt, overalls or jean shorts, and big goofy glasses or goggles!

 10) Pirate

Ahoy! ARGH ye ready to be a pirate? You can do this many different ways. You just need a white or black-and-white striped shirt and a red bandana, scarf, or pirate hat. You can dress it up with a belt, eye patch, gold jewelry, etc.

I hope one of these ideas has sparked your creativity and excitement for Halloween this year! Maybe next year we won’t procrastinate? Probably not! One more week till Halloween…get excited Hokies!

Signing off,

A SPOOKY Dottie
